Airsoft Parts Available

Here is a list of airsoft upgrades that are available to upgrade your AEG.
• Barrel. The barrel is often replaced with a tightbore to increase their gun's accuracy. Tightbore barrels almost always increase your accuracy, unless you use poor quality BBs. Most AEGs come stock with a 6.08mm barrel, but tightbores have an inner barrel diameter of 6.01mm to 6.04mm. With 6.01mm tightbore barrels, you have to use only highest quality BBs. Some manufacturers put a TN coating on the inside of their tightbore barrels to increse the FPS slightly, but sometimes that coating peels away. If you are looking to buy a tightbore barrel, I recommended you get the Vanaras or Deep Fire one. The Vanaras is good on a low budget, and the Deep Fire is excellent if you can afford it.


• Spring.  Basically, the harder your aeg spring, the more FPS you will have. Similarly, the softer your spring, the the more ROF you will have. These are good rules of thumbs, but they are not all ways true. Manufacturers make springs from as high as an m180 to as low as an m85. If you want to do a high speed setup, you will want a soft spring, such as an M110. If you want a high FPS setup, you need to get a hard spring, such as an M150.

  Be sure the internals of your gearbox can take what spring you have. You don't want a M150 spring with internals that are for a high speed setup. To learn more about springs, check out our Guide to airsoft aeg springs. That guide has a lot more information on aeg springs.



• Spring Guide. A spring guide is a necessary part to have because it keeps your spring form going everywhere. For a metal spring guide, get the SHS Spring Guide. For a plastic spring guide, you should consider the Element Spring Guide With Ball Bearings


• Cylinder.   When the piston flys forward, it compresses air in the cylinder. Cylinders are made for certain length barrels, so be sure to match your barrel length with the correct cylinder. You need a cylinder that gives you a good air seal, so I recommended a Deep Fire Cylinder. 


• Cylinder Head.   A high quality cylinder head (like the SHS Clyinder Head) can give your gearbox a good air seal..


• Hop Up.   There are three parts to the hop up, the chamber, the bucking, and the nub. Hop ups put spin on the BB, so that it can fly farther and more accurate. I recommended the SHS Hop Up Bucking. For nubs, excellent ones are the Deep Fire H-Hop Nubs. If you are looking for a good chamber, get the SHS One Piece Hop Up Chamber


• Air Nozzle The air nozzle is the part that pushes the BB into the chamber. A good air nozzle will provide you with an excellent air seal. SHS Air Nozzles are excellent.


• Piston. The piston is the part that breaks often. It is also one of the cheapest airsoft upgrades. You don't want to get a super strong piston, such as one with a full steel teeth rack, unless you have strong gears. If you have a stronger piston than gears, you will most likely break your gears first instead of the piston. Gears are way more expensive, so you don't want to break them first.

  You have to make sure your piston will work with your gears. A full teeth piston usually works with flat gears, but some times they will work with helical gears. Also, some flat teeth gears need a half teeth piston.



• Piston Head. You need a high quality piston head so that you get a good air seal with your cylinder. Element, Deep Fire, and Guarder make good piston heads.


• Gears. Airsoft gears are one of the most expensive parts of the gearbox. The sector gear, the bevel gear, and the spur gear are the three gears in your gearbox.

  Gear sets have different raitos. 18:1 is the standard ratio, and gears that are less than 18:1 (13:1 for example) are considered high speed gears., Gears with a ratio of more than 18:1 (32:1 for example) are high torque gears. Some airsoft gears have teeth cut at an angle. These types of gears are called helical gears.



• Bushings. If your gun shoots more than 330 FPS, you should definitely get metal bushings. Even if your AEG doesn't shoot more than 330 FPS, it would be a good idea to purchase metal bushings. The following are the sizes of metal bushings you can get: 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, and 9mm. We recommended SHS bushings.


• Shim Set. You need good shims in order to keep your gears aligned and meshing correctly. Shimming is one of the most difficult part of upgrading or repairing your gearbox. You don't need to be particular when purchasing shim sets, so I would suggest an SHS shim set.


• Selector Plate. Selector plates don't brake often, but you can still get an upgraded one to make your gun more reliable.


• Anti-Reversal Latch. The anti-reversal latch is necessary to have because it keeps your gears from turning the wrong way and damaging your gearbox.


• Cut Off Lever. You need a cut off lever in order for your gun to shoot semi-auto. If you don't have a cut off lever, your AEG malfunctions and will only be able to shoot full-auto.


• Trigger Mechanism. Shooting your AEG on full-auto all the time can cause the trigger mechanism to burn out.


• Sector Chip. AEGs do not come stock with a sector chip. If your gun has feeding problems, a sector chip may help.


• Motor. One of the most expensive airsoft upgrades is the motor. The motor is one of the major factors that determes how much ROF and FPS your AEG has. If you have a high speed setup, you should purchase a high speed motor like the SHS High Speed Motor. Different AEGs take different motor types. Most airsoft guns take a long or short type motor, but a few take a medium type motor.
